INDIANAPOLIS -- While many politicians offer their thoughts and prayers to the victims of the latest mass shooting, that's not enough for some people.

Many of the survivors of the Feb. 14 shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School have called out politicians and called for change in gun laws, pointing to the money they've received from the National Rifle Association.

The Center for Responsive Politics, at Opensecrets.org, is an independent nonprofit organization that tracks money in politics.

According to a study by the organization, Indiana Sen. Todd Young (R) ranks highly in United States senators in money received from the NRA.

Over his career, Young has received $2,896,732, 9th-highest among all politicians. This money includes contributions from the NRA PAC and indirect support, and includes money spent against his opponents.

RTV6 has reached out to Young for a request to comment.

Young's contributions are substantially higher than any other current Indiana politician. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-02) has received $20,572 over her career.

Sen. Joe Donnelly (D) has a negative total in the study, because the NRA has spent more opposing him than supporting.

A negative value indicates that the NRA tends to oppose the candidate, according to the study.

Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) is No. 1 on the list, with more than $7.7 million received over his career. The study also includes money for presidential contests.
